SLAVERY MENTALITY

People like being used whether psychologically, physically because it comes with a good feeling-So they care about my opinion, Am very important(needed). This is what it seems at first until when the process becomes repetitive for many years, then frustration creeps in and eats your soul such that you cant wait to get out of the situation. But we humans forget fast, when you are finally ‘free’ and circumstances are no longer the same but rather ‘lonely’, hard/difficult you wish you were needed again. Funny isn’t it? The Israelites were in the same situation in the wilderness a journey that would take them forty days took them forty years! They lamented at Moses for the food and water wasn’t sweeter as in Egypt. (never mind they were slaves). This stage as Dr Myles Munroe called it, a deliverance time. These guys were complaining forgetting the great miracles God had performed on them.
Ruth Ouma* an upwardly mobile sales and marketing executive never saw it coming. Working for a middle sized company in Nairobi, she had it all, the car, mortgage, insurance etc. The only problem was, she suffered from low self esteem, many of her work mates didn’t like her and would do all nasty things to make her stay locked up in her office-from gossip to reluctance to respond to her memos. It was hard. Ruth informed the management but seems her pleas fell on deaf ears. Once she stumbled upon a letter as she arrived in her office informing her to pack up and leave. She was shocked though deep in her heart relieved that the miserable work place wouldn’t see her again. She gladly left. Months after with kids needing school fees and other needs arising yet no more paychecks, Ruth suffered. She didn’t know God was preparing her for a better place.

She called up her friends and lamented how she would rather have persevered the harsh company. Her husband soon opened for her a company by her name. She took time to get clients but eventually it paid off and now she had the flexibility of working at her own hours and yet have time for her family.
The deliverance period is meant to get rid of this slave mentality where you might see as ‘good investment’ on the face value and it’s a comfort zone that encourages laziness. Most people in the work force are still in Egypt, persevering the harassment by bosses demanding they work overtime (some go home at 2am, return to work at 6am).Ironically, when given their time (after retirement) they feel that they are not needed anymore and this causes much anxiety and stress.
For God to use us, He must purify us through trials and tribulations. The road to Canaan is not easy -not so for many of us. We must purpose to use our God given potential to be happy and make others benefit too. Slavery is for the Egypt. What part of the journey are you in?

“Deliverance cannot set you free but gets rid of the slave in you.”
-Dr Myles Munroe-
